JIS L1902
Purpose and Scope
JIS L1902 determines the antibacterial efficacy of antibacterial textile products including cloth, wadding, thread, material for clothings, etc regardless of the type of antibacterial agent used.
Testing
An evaluation method in which the test bacterial suspension is inoculated directly onto the textile samples.
Textile sample will be placed into a sterilized vial, then inoculated with microbial suspension and incubated at the organism's growth temperature for 18 - 24 hours.
At the end of the specified contact time, the textile samples will be neutralized. The remaining microorganism on the samples will be recovered and calculated using dilution plate method to provide a quantifiable microbial count for each sample.
*Note*: A minimum of 20grams of treated samples is required. (Optional) 20 grams of untreated samples.
Data Analysis
The difference in common logarithm after inoculation and after incubation against test organism will be provided.
If the sample is effective, the difference in logarithm shall not be less than 2.
Test Organisms
Pick 1 strain:
Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 6538, Gram Positive)
Klebsiella pneumoniae (ATCC 4352, Gram Negative)
